Protein is always key to everything fitness and healthy living. Regardless of whether you’re vegan, vegetarian, or a carnivore, no protein means no muscle. The universal plan is to start your food plan with your protein requirements first and build your calories around that. Aim for 1–1.2 grams of protein per pound of body weight. Then decide whether your protein source will be meat- or plant-based. Just know that with plant-based protein, you need to read labels carefully to make sure it is balanced and contains all the necessary amino acids, or use a supplement to offset this.
